I assume that’s why they took it out (too much of a bottleneck for the usual trading channel, LFG channel, etc.), but the very idea demonstrated out how of the box and original they were thinking. A best of post? That has some merit to it…hmmm

I didn’t know that, I assumed it was in game until the end. But yeah, indeed, some classes had really nice flavor. Others probably had, too, but I never noticed because I wasn’t sure what to make of them. Personal preference and all.

And sure, go back and do another! Or just make a short “Vanguard collection” post with links to the older ones! 😉

If it’s a mouseover on a health bar in a group window, then I would consider it just a less permanent or stable version of selecting a defensive target. If it’s a mouseover on a character model in the world, it sounds like a very different system, where you have to target by facing the correct way. It’s different, but not a successor (and in my opinion, actually worse than fixed targeting; I like click targeting instead of “facing the right way”).

It’s a neat idea, although personally I think it’s obsoleted if you have some decent support for click-casting or mouseover-and-keypress casting.

Skills that added to the flavor and depth of the world but were not overly important to battles. The “forage” skill that Druids and Rangers possessed, the Thief class’ ability to build its own devices and gear, the Necromancer’s scavenge ability to create its own Frankenstein pet. There were a few more from Beta that never made it in to live release that were brilliant: the global chat channel was only available to psionics (overmind!), druids could control the weather in a certain zone, with various impacts on the economy and atmosphere. Etc. I’ve done at least two posts on this topic before, I might have to go back and do another. Vanguard was fertile and mostly unused ground.
