I wasn’t aware that BG and BG2 were closely related. I thought they just were set in the same universe. I probably won’t have the time to play both of them in detail up to the end, with all quests, so it’s a good hint to stick to the main path.

So XCOM: Enemy Unknown probably is about as hard as it used to be 20 years ago? I remember lots of save scumming to offset the cheating AI… or at least it felt like it, I remember being so pissed off about the AI’s incredible accurate grenade lobbing… good times, though.

Your idea with the return is actually quite interesting. I never even thought of that! I’m a bit wary though, because I returned a game some time ago (I derped and bought the wrong version), so I’m not sure whether there’s some internal counter how often you can do that.

That said BG1:EE is still an awesome game by today’s standards, and can be finished in around 25-30 hours if you don’t do all of the side stuff. BG2 is also fantastic, but much longer (80ish hours since the EE includes the expansion that finishes the story).

PoE is a lot like the BG games (by design), so unless you REALLY love that style, you don’t want to mix playing the two or play them back-to-back. That said PoE is also amazing, and can be finished in 30ish hours if again you don’t go for ‘do everything’ status. (I’d highly recommend for all three games to initially focus on the main storylines and beat the games, and a second playthrough as a full, explore everything games; but that assumes you have a LOT of time).

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is great if you like challenging TBS games (it can be brutally fun on Classic+Hardcore). Bureau I’ve heard is garbage. I’d suggest returning that purchase and picking up XCOM complete (Enemy Unknown + all DLC) during the Xmas sale, as the DLC really makes a great game just all around better.
